I agree. Some times being a first time parent is full of question on what is okay and not. Of course the examples you state are just common sense things like don't leave a kid alone cuz fires can break out in the house and no one is there to rescue the baby and the bath tub isn't a suitable place to sleep even if the parents don't want to change the sheets every night. There are ways around that.
Of course if we are going to issue a liscense for first time parents to certify that they have recieved and understood the manual then shouldn't we really have them liscenced before they even have sex the first time so that if they do concieve then they know what is going to happen...wouldn't this create less people on the earth that are given darwin awards for stupidly killing themselves doing dumb stuff. I think intellegnce is partially genetic...sometimes it isn't a matter of education but of mental capabilites. Just a thought but yes someone does need to do a good manual...one is what to expect the first year (from the same authors as what to expect when you are expecting). This says alot. My peditrican also gave us a book on the first visit of what to do the first year, this helps establish an guideline for how to care for the child if someone takes the time to read it.

At the core, human beings are beautiful savages that can take care of their off springs without any instructions. Parental instincts are biologically and evolutionarily inherited, and they are in all of us.
