I have found that there is something very interesting about writing. If you are going to go to the trouble of actually putting your thoughts down on paper, the thoughts should be well thought out!

When you hit your mid 40’s you begin to think about different things that you did when you were in your twenties and thirties (Not to mention your teens!). I recently begin to wonder how I would be remembered. How would my kids think about me and talk about me after I was gone? Would the things I believe in and stood for be passed on to them?

When these thought occurred to me, I grabbed a pen and began to write a list of the things I wanted to make sure my kids knew about life before I passed on. Over the next few days, I will do my best to share with you my thoughts on this subject.

Have you ever noticed that life seems to get more and more serious every day? It’s almost as if people have lost their sense of humor. Work is more serious. School is more serious. Athletics are more serious. Heck, even play time is more serious.

We are all very busy, but we need to take time every day just to have fun.

A few nights ago I saw my kids goofing around in the living room. There was a big stack of dishes to wash, but they could wait. This was any opportunity to have some great fun.

I went flying into the other room, waving my dish towel over my head and screaming a pretend war cry as loud as I could. Thirty minutes of craziness later and we were all dead tired, but it was great fun!

Later that night I had the chance to reflect on what had happened and I realized that one of the greatest gifts we can give our children is the ability have spontaneous fun. As parent we are terrific at teaching our kids how to live responsibly, how to get all of their work done but we need to spend just as much time teaching them how not to get their work done, how to just have fun. After all, isn’t that what being a kid is all about?
