Various types of Allergic Reaction
Posted by Syahrul Azlan on May 21, 2008Allergy is an exaggerated reaction of the immune system to antigens. Bee stings, insect stings, some food, or pollens are examples of an antigen. Each antigen triggers specific allergy attack and is manifested distinctly by each person. It is of frequent occurrence nowadays.
Allergy can be mild or severe in nature. It is mild when its symptoms are not alarming and with minimal intervention and elimination of the allergen you’ll be well. But if a person is experiencing breathing difficulty and altered level of consciousness due to an allergic response, he is in severe case of allergy which is a life threatening condition known as anaphylaxis.
Hay fever is a seasonal allergic rhinitis, a type of allergic reaction. This type of allergy is triggered by pollen and other minute particles that are present at specific seasons. On occasion, this allergic rhinitis is seen all throughout the year.
Insect stings allergic reaction is very common type of allergy. Despite that, the severity of its reaction to each person varies. Usually the person is unaware that he is allergic to this antigen until he was stung by an insect. Most of the time allergic reactions results to second time insect sting whereas the first incident would usually result to ordinary sting reaction.
Another type of allergy is to latex. The person is allergic to materials made of natural latex like condoms and medical devices. But the major cause is the mostly used medical barrier which is the latex gloves.
Another types of allergic reactions are the irritant contact dermatitis and allergic contact dermatitis, these could we get from the ingredients in the cosmetics we used like fragrances and preservatives. With cosmetic allergy you will experience skin irritation. Mold allergy is another allergy that does not have exact season as mold and fungi grow in all weather and thrive both indoors and outdoors. Some forms of outdoor mold tend to grow in higher concentrations from spring to late fall.
Allergies to pets by some people are not really due to its feather or fur but because of the dander, the invisible animal skin flakes, produces sneezing, watery eyes, and stuffy nose.
Food allergies are due to sensitivity of some to the ingredients of the food taken. Manifestations include hives, throat and tongue swelling, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and hypotension.
