Dog owners love giving their dogs treats, and obviously the dog itself is a grateful recipient.

Dogs love to receive treats, and we love giving them to them.

You would never dream of hurting your pet, yet you may accidentally cause them harm. This article is to make dog lovers aware of the potential hazards of dog treats that you probably aren’t aware of.

One of the most popular dog treats available are Greenies, Dogs tend to love these and they are supposed to clean their teeth. Unfortunately, dogs can choke on these very easily, so never give them to puppies and supervise your older dog while he is eating them.

I don’t know any dog owner who hasn’t at some time or another given their pooch a rawhide chew. They have a good play and clean their teeth at the same time, it seems perfect. In fact it is far from it and can be very dangerous.

If your dog is particularly fond of his rawhide treats, you don’t have to stop giving them to him, just be careful. As a lot of foreign rawhide is preserved in nasty chemicals such as Arsenic, make sure that when you buy this for your dog, you only buy rawhide from the US.

Dogs are thieves, especially when food is concerned. We often find that our pooch has demolished chocolates that have been left lying around, but did you know that this could actually kill them? Chocolate is extremely toxic for both your cat and your dog.

In the way that caffeine gives us a buzz and keeps us awake, Theobromine has the same effect on your pet. Dogs should never be given chocolate as they can potentially overdose very quickly, which often results in death.
