Thanks to fast food, your kids are more likely to make a meal out of junk than to eat the healthy food that they really need. So it is your job as a parent to make the most out of mealtime for you kids.

Avoiding the fats and focusing instead on the three basic food groups is essential. That means eating as many meals as possible that involve carbohydrates, proteins and fruits and vegetables. It isn’t impossible, but it can take a little bit of coercion.

The three groups provide different things that your body needs to continue operating properly. If your body doesn’t get what it needs, as sure as a car will stop working without gas, your body will begin to slow down and then shut down.

Wheat, grains and cereals provide the essential carbohydrates that give your kids energy and keep them moving about during the day. Carbs are like the body’s gasoline.

That is why the television commercials mention the importance of a healthy breakfast. Kids need these basic energy-providing nutrients just to get through the school day.

Protein-rich meats and dairy products help your kids’ bodies to build musculature and bones. Additionally, proteins build up the immune systems which is an integral part of keeping your kids healthy. Finally, anyone who is active will need proteins to keep them moving.

Fruits and vegetables are the final key to a healthy diet. These give your kids the basic vitamins and minerals they need to stay awake and alert. The vitamins and minerals are employed in everything from the functioning of the immune systems to the processes involved in thinking.

It comes then to the question of getting your child to actually eat these things. That is a whole different matter, but with a little bit of creativity, you can keep your children healthy.
