The irritating and unbearable noise barking creates has always been the concern of the neighbours living beside households who has a dog or dogs in their houses. How can we stop a dog from barking? It is like stopping a person from speaking what are in their minds. Definitely, we would like to check the difference between overly barking and a normal barking.
First of all, it is important for you to understand your dogs barking habits. Here are five ways to train your dog to not bark excessively:
1. When your dog is barking, just ignore it. Don’t let it feel that you are reacting to his barks. By doing so, you are just encouraging the dog to develop a bad behavior simply because you are manipulated by him/her. Ignore the dog and give it attention only when he/she behaves good already or you can treat him/her for something good for being quite.
2. Give your dog proper exercise. When a dog is bored or has a lot of energy, the tendency is they are very rowdy. To keep their energy levels normal, give your dog a way to use its energies in a positive manner – such as a daily walk or a game of fetch.
3. Train them to bark or to keep quiet on command. If you can do this, then it is a matter of issuing the command to be silent and your dog will stop barking. There are many resources on how to train your dog to do this but the general idea is to give them a reward in the form of their favorite treat whenever they do something right.
4. Never let the dog approach any guests in the house because if you do, the dogs will become confused as to who is the most important person at home – the owner or the guest. Therefore, it is important the dogs are not given free access to the door where guests come in. Ask the guests who have just arrived or about to leave not to pay attention to the dog.
5. Finally, if all things fail, use a tool to train the dog. The tool should be able to change its behaviour and provide a better probability of teaching the dog to stop barking senselessly and noisily.
Classic examples are sonic dog collars, spray collars, shock collars, etc… When your dog starts barking, the collars go off thus making your dog stop.
