Why Musical Instruments Are Great Gifts For Your Kids

One great gift idea for kids that is all too often overlooked is musical instruments. Many parents overlook these items when they are looking for toys, but this is a shame. Instruments can encourage creativity, prompt learning, and entertain children for hours.

Some professional educators theorize that there are as many as eight different types of intelligence. Different people, it is believed, learn in different ways. Where one person might learn best by reading information, another person might do better by hearing it. Still another person may learn via music as well.

If you supply your children with musical instruments you help encourage them in this form of learning. Your child can explore musical toys and thus discover the world of music. Instruments also help kids to learn during play.

Kids get into the educational activity much more fully when they are having fun. You want to do what you can to expose your kids to as many of the different modes of intelligence as possible. If you do this, you encourage your children to develop different skills, and you also help them to become more well-rounded.

Kids can learn via music and parents can encourage this learning in many ways. There are many different ways to encourage this and there can be very good results. One example would be to use music to help kids learn math.

Parents can teach children to count, and to use meter and rhythm and measures. Music and math are a great pairing. Parents don’t have to be expert musicians themselves to make effective use of this learning tool either. Even at fundamental levels, musical learning is good for children.

Kids can also learn valuable social skills through music. When kids are part of a performance, they will have to learn how to take turns. Songs have a beginning and an end, and this makes a great breaking point to signal a change in turn. Kids can be taught to give each other a turn with different instruments also.

It’s great to encourage kids to learn through play. Remember to let children explore and play with instruments independently also. Independent play is a great way for kids to learn.

How To Determine Your Choice Of Sealant For Your Floor

Posted by Candy Kimble on October 30, 2010

Is it stressing organizing and getting a great wood floor done? Have you also thought of how lasting your wood floor could be? Well, selecting a good stain, getting the right coating and the right sealant is much required for a lasting wood floor.

Let us consider you have finished with your preparation, sanding and some of needed things leaving the wood floor. Now what you need at this point is the perfect set of products for your wood floor and you have to know it before you go to the product shop.

Few of the products available for use are surface finishes, varnish, sealers, lacquer and shellac.

What exactly are you going to use the floor for? Are you thinking of one which will be patronizes by lots of people? Should it easy clean or one that water cannot enter? If your guess is as valid as mine, then a good number of coatings with oil made polyurethane are what will be perfect for the floor you want to get.

Your floor will now get the lustre finish and the guard it needs. But know that with time your floor will give up the best of its colour, normally yellow or fading yellow.

At least a double coat will be okay for a lot of the surface finishes but give it 3 or even 4 if you want the best of the finishes. Now getting the finishes dried is another area you can know a lot about as you deal with the finishes, some don’t require much time to be fine. But some could take up to over a day and more to dry.

Because these finishes come with a lot of strong smell, you will have to take one or two measures to take care of the smell. You can raise the curtains or let the window open to find a good outlet for the strong smell.

And when you do these necessary measures, especially giving it the right number in coat and making sure of proper drying of your finishes. You stand a great chance of using it for a very long period without any problem.

Three Things To Consider When Hiring A Cleaning Service

Posted by Eden Graham on October 29, 2010

While many businesses have seen their profits decrease steadily as the economy worsened, there have also been opportunities for new businesses to open their doors. If you’re starting a new business and you’ll be renting office space, you may not have considered hiring a cleaning service yet. It’s an important consideration though, and it’s one that you should approach carefully.

Maintaining a clean working environment does three things for you and your business: it keeps the workplace in a clean and pleasant state for your employees; it increases the legitimacy of your business in the eyes of customers; and it keeps your equipment and furniture in good shape.

Before you hire a cleaning service, however, you should always do research to ensure that they offer a cost-effective service. Here are three things that you should consider before hiring any cleaning service.

The Company’s Experience. While there are plenty of less-established cleaning services that might provide office cleaning for a lower rate, you’ll want to go with a cleaning service that has a good reputation and is also licensed, bonded, and insured.

Trained and Certified Staff. The cleaning service’s employees should be trained to work in office buildings. Ideally, they will also possess certifications that show they are qualified to do this kind of work. Check with the company to see if they have a training and certification program.

Using “Green” Cleaning Methods. Many cleaning services have adopted green practices that reduce the stress on the environment and on your employees. Make sure that your cleaning service follows the current accepted guidelines of green cleaning.

Natural and organic cleaning products are widely available on the market today so there is no reason why a cleaning company should still be using the harmful, toxic chemicals of yesteryear. These chemicals can cause respiratory complications and allergic reactions in your employees; thus, it’s obviously a good idea to choose a cleaning service that uses green products.

Be sure to take these three guidelines into account before choosing a cleaning service. They’ll help you choose a cost-effective solution that will help you tremendously in the long run.

Remodeling Your Floor Can Be Affordable When You Use Vinyl

Posted by Shelly Bentley on October 27, 2010

You may think that home remodeling is too large an expense to absorb, considering the current state of the economy. By shopping wisely, however, it’s possible to make improvements to your home without spending more than you can afford.

If you’re looking to replace some flooring, you should definitely take a look at the vinyl that’s being offered these days. It’s come a long way from the vinyl flooring in your Grandma’s house.

Just thinking of the word “vinyl” probably brings to mind those old tile patterns and mustard colors that were so popular in vinyl flooring about 30-40 years ago.

While hardwood has become popular since the old days when vinyl was so prevalent, it’s often out of the budget of many families due to the cost of the materials and the difficulty of installation.

Today, however, vinyl flooring is inexpensive, attractive, and much more fashionable than it was a few decades ago. More and more people are using vinyl for their flooring as it overcomes the stigma it once held.

Even if you’re looking at the high end of the vinyl market, you’ll find it to be relatively inexpensive. If you’re willing to pay a little extra, you’ll find more and more options opening up to you.

High-end vinyl is available in many different and interesting patterns; it may also be textured to give it a little extra character. You can even find vinyl flooring that looks and feels just like distressed wood, which is currently very popular in the flooring business. If you choose to go with the old tile pattern standby in your vinyl flooring, you’ll find that it gives the appearance of stone and that you have many color choices.

If you’re looking for an inexpensive, easy to clean, durable flooring that’s easy to install and remove if necessary, you’d do well to take a good long look at vinyl. If you haven’t seen what it has to offer in a few years, you might be surprised by how far it’s come.

Dealing With Your Man’s Bad Hairstyle

Posted by Janna Reed on October 25, 2010

You may love everything about your man – he could be handsome, funny, and charming – but despite all the great things about him, his hair still might need some work. Seeing your guy with an unattractive haircut can nearly spoil the whole package!

If you simply can’t stand your man’s haircut anymore, there are ways to suggest that he make a change. You’ll have to do it delicately, however, as men are often sensitive about their hair. You may find yourself without a guy at all if you decide to just tell him that his hair is ugly! Here are a few of the different problems that guys run into with their hair, and what you can do to fix them.

Thinning Hair – This is a big problem, faced by many guys of all ages. Women typically don’t find it attractive, which leads men to shell out millions of dollars every year for hair loss treatments of all kinds, from lotions to prescription drugs.

If your man’s hair is thinning, you don’t have to bother pointing it out to him – rest assured that he already knows. Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do to reverse the process, so if it’s really an issue for you, you’ll have to either learn to accept it or move on to a new relationship.

The “Just Rolled Out of Bed” Look – if your man’s hair is naturally a bit messy and he always looks like he just climbed out of bed after a night out drinking, he may be doing it on purpose or he may be totally unaware that his hair is messy. If he can pull it off, that’s great, but not many can. Gently let him know that he needs a new look if the hairstyle isn’t right for him.

The Frizz – While guys have shorter hair in general, we still have a lot of the same problems that women do. It’s also harder to convince us that it’s worth spending time and money to fix the messes on our heads.

Most guys, aside from metrosexuals, don’t know a thing about hair products. If the frizz in your man’s hair is a bit out of control, suggest to him that there are products he could use to tame it, and help him choose one out.

The Buzz Cut or Close Shave – Your man may buzz cut his hair or just shave it down to the skin because he’s losing his hair or just because he likes the way it looks. If you’re not a fan of the shaved look, gently suggest to him that he would look good if he let his hair grow out.

All About Herbal Medicines And Complementary Care

Posted by Sandy Ryan on October 24, 2010

Do you know what is meant when someone talks about alternative medicine? It’s actually a very large category with a lot of different types. I am knowledgeable about herbal remedies. This means I know about a small part of this entire medical field.

There’s an unfortunate tendency for traditional medical professionals to scoff at herbs and herbalism. They should not. Many of the medicines they prescribe come from herbs.

This unfortunate bias is starting to shift. A new model, termed complementary care, is becoming more common. This is when a doctor works together with alternative medicine practitioners for the best interests of the patient.

Complementary care has a number of important benefits, especially with regards to herbal remedies. While herbal remedies can be very useful, they are not inert. Herbal remedies can make some conditions worse rather than better, can have side effects, and can interact with some medications. I know many of these complicating factors, though not all of them, but I can find more information on the ones I don’t know by heart.

Your average medical doctor doesn’t know much about herbs. I know a couple who have a decent knowledge, but the majority know little to nothing on the subject. In fact, some doctors aren’t comfortable when their patients are taking herbs because they have no idea what the effect of the herbs will be. This is where I can come in and really contribute.

The benefit is reciprocal. I can’t diagnose or prescribe. Doctors can, because they have training sufficient for this. If it were left to me, all I could do would be to make an educated guess. That’s not something that would be in the best interest of the patient, needless to say.

With complementary care, patients also get benefit from traditional medication. There are many helpful medicines that are quite valuable in the treatment of disease and illness. Sometimes traditional drugs will work when no herbs can get the job done.

Let’s take heart attacks, for example. There are herbs that can thin blood, lower blood pressure, and help control cholesterol. However, there are no herbs that I could give someone to save heart tissue during a heart attack. A heart attack requires a trip to the hospital, and conventional medications.

Complementary car allows the best of all worlds. The patient can benefit from the best that traditional medicine has to offer, and can access the help that can come from alternative medicine as well.

Tips For Choosing A Midwife

Posted by Kelly Nixon on October 23, 2010

A midwife is able to provide the necessary supervision, care and advice to women when she is pregnant. She is also able to deliver a baby, provide care after delivery and also care for the infant. A midwife is basically a health professional who partners with a pregnant woman to be able to provide care, education and support during and after the childbearing cycle. A midwife firmly believes in a normal birth. Read on to see some reasons for choosing a midwife for your pregnancy.

Number one thing to remember is that midwives are all about normal birthing. Midwives are there to give professional support and care in order for pregnant women to have an easier normal delivery. A midwife knows that there are a lot of variations when it comes to giving birth. Midwives will know how to interpret the signs and know what to do as well during labor and delivery.

Next, midwives create a healthy environment all throughout the pregnancy. Your midwife will visit you at home through the entire course of your pregnancy to help monitor and take care of your health needs. It is inevitable that women and their midwives create a bond during the course of the pregnancy since the midwife’s visit is frequent and regular. These midwives are excellent at creating an atmosphere where the mother and the child can thrive. Once the baby is born naturally and healthy this will be the gold medal in the relationship between the midwife and the pregnant woman.

And last but not the least, a midwife will be able to promote peace. Peace in the house is vital for a good delivery. Because midwives connect to their clients on a lot of level, a woman is more at ease and relaxed during labor. Because of this, it will be easier and more efficient to give birth. It can be said that the basic responsibility is to give comfort, relaxation and peace of mind.

So there you have some good reasons why you can select a midwife. Their primary concern is that the pregnant woman and the baby is in good health up until deliver.

How To Determine If You Can Afford An Apartment

Posted by Jordan Miller on October 22, 2010

It is really hard to get a control on your finances when you are a full-time student living on part-time work, but to survive in this world, one has to stand up to the ordeal.

As students will soon find out, a large part of their monthly expenses will go into paying for rent. But before they even start paying for rent, students should determine the amount of rent they can afford.

When determining their rental budget, all other expenses must be taken into account as well. After all, students will not be spending on rent alone.

Other expenses include the following: groceries, clothing and laundry expenses, landline and cellular phone bills, cable and internet connections, other household expenses, and car maintenance (i.e. accident insurance, registration, licenses and even fees for parking).

Then there are expenses related to repair when things break down such as their computer or their vehicle. They even have to set aside a budget for dealing with illnesses as even the common cold can take a bite out of anyone’s budget.

The general budgeting rule when it comes to rental fees is that it should not be more than 25% of their total monthly expenses. So for example, if a student gets $2,500/month from work and/or grants, then a $625 monthly budget for rent is acceptable. They have to make sure this covers utility bills as well, though.

Another thing that a student would be wise to plan ahead for is the lease period. Knowing if they are going to be staying over the summer or not can mean a savings of two or three months worth of rent.

Knowing what their overall expenses are going to be and planning ahead can definitely be a huge jump start for the young adult. Although expenses cannot be totally predicted, sticking to a budget and being aware of their spending constraints can spell the difference between success and failure.

The Various Medicinal Uses Of Sage

Posted by Zach Billman on October 21, 2010

Do you use any herbs in cooking? Many people do but don’t give it much thought. Take sage. Most people use it a couple times a year maybe, when making stuffing. But herbalists use sage a lot more frequently.

Sage comes from the Mediterranean. There is a variety from Central America also, but this one is not as widely used for good reason – it can cause hallucination. People from that region of Central America use the herb for religious purposes.

Sage has been recognized as an important herb for a long time. In Ancient Rome, sage was considered so sacred that there were rituals you had to perform before harvesting it. Also, the person who was to harvest the sage had to make a food sacrifice and be wearing clean clothing.

Further, the person’s feet had to be clean. The harvesting itself required that the person use a special non-iron knife. Iron reacts with sage, which explains the choice of different materials.

Sage was popular in China in centuries past as well. The Chinese discovered sage tea, and traded with the Dutch to get the herb. The Dutch discovered Chinese tea at about this same time so it worked out very well. The Dutch, in fact, would trade one part sage for four parts Chinese tea, and then would sell the tea at a sizeable profit.

Herbalists also use sage of course. I like to simmer sage leaves in beef broth for maybe twenty minutes and serve it to someone who is experiencing a flare up of irritable bowel syndrome. I can use chicken broth also, it doesn’t matter. Actually, the broth is just for taste, because most people don’t like plain sage tea.

Sage is great for helping to wean a child. If a nursing mother is given sage tea, it will help dry up her milk – sage has a natural drying effect. This helps wean the child without harming them. You can also use the drying properties of sage to combat sweating issues, or night sweats from menopause.

You should talk with your doctor before using any herb therapeutically (food amount usage, like as a ’spice,’ doesn’t require a doctor’s advice). Your doctor can advise you on what is best for your own personal circumstances and medical history.

Aside from herbal remedies, the writer also frequently shares writing on catnip cat toys and the feather cat toys.

Home Birthing Benefits 101

Posted by Shelly Carson on October 20, 2010

Most women of this past decade may be wary of the idea of giving birth at home. It will seem weird to be giving birth at home when we have so many excellent hospitals that can cater to our needs. It is an age old practice that we have somehow forgotten due to technology and the convenience of hospitals. There are still benefits of home births even in our age. This page will give you an idea about the advantages of home births.

This process of birthing is now gaining popularity again. With that in mind, there will be a lot of practitioners who will be able to assist you when the time comes. And most of the time, they not only assist you during pregnancy, they will be able to assist you from conception to giving birth. Which is why women are now open to the idea of giving birth at home. Due to the fact that women receive better pregnancy care today this translates to healthier pregnancies and can mean more home births.

It is a surprising fact that most people regard home births as a safer way to deliver their baby. It is quite surprising to have this result in surveys. Home birthing is pure effort on the part of the mother and will not use any medical intervention. It is a very good idea to give birth at home since studies show that women are less stressed when giving birth at home. You will have freedom to move around when you choose to give birth at home not unlike in hospitals where you are discouraged to move about.

A relaxed labor is a product of giving birth at home. This maybe primarily psychological in nature because it will allow you to give birth in a place you are familiar with. Hospital delivery rooms can be quite stressful due to the people around you and the unfamiliar surroundings. Home birthing will be a less stressful option since you do not need to go out of your house anymore. You also have the whole family around you when you give birth which is priceless.

These are the wonderful advantages that home birth can bring. Once your doctor clear you for home birthing then you can look forward to a less stressful labor and delivery at home.
