Being a parent is never an easy task. It is the duty of the parents to make sure that their children grow to be responsible and morally upright individuals. There are a lot of parenting styles and techniques in rearing a child and one of them is permissive parenting. Over the years, this style of parenting has become one of the most controversial and has also undergone a lot of criticisms.

Also known as indulgent parenting style, permissive parenting is when parents raise their kids without making any demands or setting any expectations from them. Parents often bond with their kids but they never teach them how to behave properly. The main effect of this style is kids will be more responsible with their actions and they also have the freedom to choose. On the other hand, it can also cause kids to become spoiled.

Children are not given limits with their behavior in this type of parenting style. Parents put all their love and attention to their children to the fullest and they don’t correct any wrong behavior or even inform the kids that what they are doing is wrong. In this parenting style, parents are laid back and they firmly believe that kids are given liberty to make their own decisions and the parents should give them their utmost support.

The negative effect of such type of parenting, however, is that children become spoiled because of too much freedom from parents. Kids do not know what the difference between right and wrong is, and such parenting style doesn’t help them learn the difference of the two. This may also lead children to behave in a very unpleasant manner and throw tantrums if they don’t get what they wanted. Kids growing up in this environment may take advantage of the utmost freedom their parents give them and may engage themselves in vices.

Permissive parenting is not totally negative. It can work and fits well for those kids who are introvert and shy for this will give them space to grow and develop their confidence in terms of decision making. However, such parenting style should never be used with kids who are head-strong for this may cause them to become spoiled brats.

These are the things about permissive parenting. Hopefully, this was able to guide you on what type of parenting style you should use in raising your kids. Remember that too much of something is bad. Thus, it is not totally good to allow kids to decide alone at a very young age. As parents, it is your duty to let them be aware about life and the world around them including the concept about right and wrong.
