Pregnancy Guide for Health and Comfort

Posted by Kathryn Ly on April 3, 2012

See your doctor before trying to become pregnant. Your doctor will be able to advise you on healthy changes to make in your lifestyle now, to make sure you have the best pregnancy possible. Learning how to prepare your body for pregnancy is one of the best things you can do to help ensure a safe and healthy experience.

Exercising when you are pregnant is a wonderful choice to make. You want to start out early in your pregnancy, and remain consistent. This will help you lower your risk of a miscarriage, and can also help shorten how long you are in labor, as well as reducing the risk of having any complications.

Keep a journal while you are pregnant. This will be something fun to look over when your child is grown, and it is also a great way to keep track of what is going on. If you are writing everything down, you will be able to notice quickly when any big changes occur.

Write a journal about your experiences through pregnancy! This will give you a place to write down the mundane and the sublime. Write down new things you notice and things that worry you! This will be a great tool for remembering things to ask your doctor about and it is something you can pass down to your child or their significant other as they prepare for your grandchildren.

To combat an upset stomach during the first trimester, try eating lots of small meals. Keeping your stomach with something in it will help keep those upset stomach issues at bay. Try to keep the foods you do eat light and fresh. Fresh fruit, vegetables and lean meats do wonders.

Do not be scared to ask for help with lifting things when you are a pregnant. Lifting heavy things can cause miscarriages or stress on your baby, not to mention that it can cause back strains. Instead, have someone else lift heavy objects for you, even if you do not think it is dangerous to lift it.

For pregnant women, make sure that you stretch your legs, before going to sleep every night. This is because many pregnant women get intense muscle cramps while they are sleeping, which could be easily prevented, if they stretch. Spend about 5 minutes flexing all of your muscles, before even climbing into bed.

Do not get worried if you haven’t gotten pregnant in the first year of trying. The general consensus among doctors is that it takes a year of actively trying to become pregnant before there is cause for concern. If you have been trying for a year with no success, see your doctor for an evaluation.

Before you are pregnant, it is a good idea to visit your dentist. Many times during pregnancy, your gums can be very sensitive, and a dental cleaning can be bothersome. You also will not be able to get any x-rays during your pregnancy, so it’s best to get that out of the way before hand.

Omega 3 Essential Fish Oils

Posted by Owen Jones on April 1, 2012

Omega 3 essential fatty acids are frequently in the news, but they seem to drift in and out of public consciousness. Let us examine the terminology, they are called ‘essential’ because they cannot be created in sufficient quantities by our bodies. In other words, we have to eat them.

The absolute importance of Omega 3 essential fatty acids actually came to light in the 1970’s while a group of Danish researchers found than Inuits in Greenland had a far lower incidence of cardiovascular concerns than Europeans and Americans, despite ingesting a diet high in fat.

However, the dissimilarity between the diets was that the Inuits derived their fat from sea creatures whereas the other nationalities derived theirs from land animals. The importance of Omega 3 essential fatty acids was established

Once that initial research had been verified, other tests on the same issue were carried out by other groups and they all confirmed the importance of Omega 3 essential fatty acids in our diets. These substances help prevent heart disease, cancer, diabetes and macular degeneration and will also relieve these conditions if you did not find out about them until it was ‘too late’.

Our main source of Omega 3 essential fatty acids is oily fish like tuna, salmon and mackerel fish and other sea foodstuffs. Research backs up the age-old old wives’ tale that fish is brain food. It really is, but it also goes further than that. Omega 3 can help stave off many of the so-called age-related complaints like memory loss apart from the ones already mentioned above.

Some investigation has also shown that a lack in Omega 3 in children might lead to learning disorders like hyperactivity and attention disorders. There could also be a relationship to dyslexia. Other disorders that are more certainly linked to a deficiency of Omega 3 are depression, some allergies and arthritis. This means that pregnant mothers should be watchful of their intake of Omega 3.

This fish oil has also been observed to reduce the seriousness of high levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. It also seems to have a beneficial, anti-aging impact on the skin and wrinkles when taken internally as part of a healthy, balanced diet. Most dietitians would recommend eating oily fish twice per week, but that does not mean that you cannot consume it in capsules.

It is important to see Omega 3 in relation to other essential fatty acids like omega 6. Omega 6 and omega 3 vie for the same position in our systems and that place is only so big. If you eat too much omega 3, omega 6 cannot get a look in and vice-versa. It is a broad topic, so you are advised to do more research or take the advice of a dietitian.

However, before you believe everything that they say, ask about the interaction of omegas 3 and 6 and see what they say.

What Are Some Ways I Can Stop Somebody From Online Bullying

Posted by Michael Gauthier on March 31, 2012

As reported by the National Crime Prevention Association, cyber bullying occurs when teens utilize the Internet, phones, or many other products to mail or publish text or photos supposed to distress or humiliate another human being.

Beyond 50% of all US teens have been a target of cyber bullying so it is important that students, parents, and school staff are mindful of methods to stop it.

1) Don’t Take Part – This will likely sound like common-sense but a lot of teenagers do not realize that they are guilty of online bullying by leaving comments on or posting hurtful text or photographs, even though they were not the ones who originally initiated the intimidation. Be sure your children or learners know that they must refuse to join in these activities.

2) Block the Internet Bullies – Almost all websites, cellular phones, and various other texting applications have capabilities that will enable an individual to bar messages or other different kinds of communication from specific individuals. It’s possible (and quite simple) for dedicated bullies to build false user profiles and accounts to circumvent certain blocks though.

3) Direct Action – Rather than instantly telling an adult about an instance of internet bullying, young people can also elect to ask the bully to quit directly. Sometimes this kind of direct communication could be very successful, however its success also depends highly on other parameters including personalities, relationships, and environment.

4) Inform An Adult – One of the tougher steps for a teenage child to consider is informing an adult if a peer or classmate has been bullied. A lot of students are afraid of the conceivable retaliation by classmates when considered to be a ‘tattle-tale’. If the problem is pointed out by a student, school staff or officials should do their best to safeguard the anonymity of the whistle-blower.

5) Preventive or Proactive Training – There aren’t a large number of teenagers who will take a seat at their pc and study online bullying. That means it is critical that parents and teachers take a proactive approach to educating teenagers about internet bullying. Train them on ways to recognize, put a stop to, and report cyber bullying and let them know that they should feel protected exposing instances of bullying to a reliable adult.

Children are affected every single day by online bullying and some have even gone as far as to take their lives because of it. Please share this info with your kids or students.

Inform them of this guideline: If they would not declare it in person, they shouldn’t say it online.

Safe Baby Pregnancy Tips

Posted by June Hood on March 30, 2012

It is important to love and appreciate your body when you are pregnant. By not appreciating it, you could cause yourself unnecessary stress or even depression. Keep in mind that once you have your baby, you can work on getting your body to look the way it did before you were pregnant.

Pack your bags early. Don’t wait until you are 37 weeks or later to finally pack your bag for the hospital. Obviously you want your baby to reach full gestation, but you never know when something is going to happen. Having your bag packed will give you peace of mind in case there is an unexpected event.

Avoid alcohol when trying to conceive or if you are already pregnant. Alcohol can cause you and your baby to have serious health problems. When trying to conceive, alcohol decreases sperm count and makes getting pregnant more difficult. Even drinks like wine are unhealthy for pregnant women or those trying to conceive.

Don’t be afraid of the weight gain. You are going to gain weight. It’s not only normal but necessary. Your body needs fat reserves for breast milk, energy for labor and delivery as well as lots of extra fluids. Embrace the added weight and know that it will come off afterwards.

Keep in mind that it can take up to a year for a woman to get pregnant. If you have been trying for that long and are not having any success, it is time to go see your doctor. They will be able to tell you if there is any medical reason for your struggles.

If you are pregnant you need to make sure to exercise on a regular basis. This will decrease your chances of suffering a miscarriage, reduce the amount of time you are in labor, and it will make it easier to go back to your regular size after you give birth.

If you get a headache when you are pregnant, make sure to stay away from aspirin. Aspirin has been proven to cause harm in both an expectant mother and baby. It is best to ask your doctor what medications are safe for you to use. Also, try relieving head pressure by using a cool compress.

If you are not sure how to handle a child or a newborn, talk to the mothers that you know. Offer to babysit for them. This way you are getting some experience, and your friend is getting a well deserved break from being a mother. Just keep in mind that no two children are the same!

You will want to have the physical memories of the day you give birth for the rest of your life. Make sure your video camera is charged and ready, along with your digital camera. Remember to have enough media storage to capture as many photos as you could ever need.

Diet And Extra Supplements For Adding Weight (part one)

Posted by Owen Jones on March 29, 2012

Bodybuilders normally have one of two aims depending on their duration of time in the sport. Individuals new to the sport often have body fat, so they have the goal of wanting to lose that fat, whereas seasoned bodybuilders want to create bulk, muscles and strength.

Novices would like to achieve both of the goals at the same time, but regrettably this is not simple as dieting to lose fat reduces muscle as well, if it is not done properly.

The process of creating muscle used to be pretty personal until not so long ago, unless you were in the top strata or could afford your own fitness adviser or dietitian. It in essence involved eating as much as you could and then working to burn the fat off, while attempting to keep the muscle on.

As an example, a man hoping to be Mr. Wales was working as a labourer with my brother in the Seventies digging trenches: he used to eat a chicken and drink a pint of milk in his ten-minute tea break at ten o’clock.

He did not keep the job long by the way, because bodybuilding is concerned with posture and posing. If lifting is involved, like with weight-lifters, the power is short term, whereas diggers of trenches need to work all day

A more famous example was Bruce Randall in the Fifties. He did his bulking in the American Marines eating huge amounts of protein-rich foodstuffs courtesy of the tax-payer. He ultimately reached a body weight of 400 pounds, but he could accomplish 900 pound lifts.

One story goes that Randall was working out in a gym in New York in this period, but was unhappy with the siting of a bench he wanted to use. So he picked it up and put it where he wished to work. After putting it down, he realized that it had been bolted to the floor. He just had not noticed ripping the bolts out of the floor!

Later, Randal decided to take the sport earnestly. After a great deal of exercise and coaching by trainers and nutritionists, he reduced his weight to 187 pounds from 405 pounds, although he did go back up to 227 pounds. He was rewarded by the fact that he won the coveted title of Mr Universe in 1959 in London.

Lou Ferrigno, who played the Hulk in the TV series was a two-time winner of Mr Universe. When he started in Brooklyn, he was a fairly ordinary looking kid, but he was determined to have the ideal body. He worked very hard and ate and ate and ate. At his peak, Lou weighed 300 pounds.

When asked what his secret to bulking up was, he replied: ‘Lots of milk and food’. This was the hit or miss technique of the Seventies , Eighties and to a lesser extent the Nineties. However, these days the tactic is to eat the right foodstuffs and supplements to only build muscle or at least mostly muscle.

How To Supplement A Healthy Diet

Posted by Owen Jones on March 28, 2012

We are all more conscious of our health these days, probably because fewer of us work hard physically any more, our diet of junk food has converted us into blobs and the health care industry is continuously warning us how unhealthy we are in order to sell us more treatments. Whatever the reasons, most people are striving more to take care of themselves.

There are different ways to attacking this problem of being unhealthy and some of the reason for this depends on why you are unhealthy and some of it on your personal approach to things. For instance, some people will know that they have got into an unhealthy rut and will make lifestyle changes like exercising more and eating more healthily, whereas others will purchase a load of pills and hope that they work.

Then there is the middle road. We are busy and we do not all have an hour a day to spend at the gym and some of us could not work out even if we wished to. So, the middle way, might be to exercise as frequently as you can by hiking or practicing yoga at home; eating more healthy food, that is foodstuff that you can eat raw or that you cook yourself and by taking a few supplements.

Which supplements might you decide on? Well, that really depends on your diet. There is not much use in taking calcium tablets if you eat cheese sandwiches for luncheon, a T-bone steak for dinner and drink milk each day, but there might be a decent reason for taking calcium supplements if you are a vegan.

I have a friend who will not eat vegetables and especially greens, but, knowing that his diet lacks fibre amongst other things, he eats porridge for breakfast and snacks on fruit. Another friend hates fish, he cannot even look at it, but he is aware of the importance of omega 3 essential fatty acids and so he takes it in the form of capsules. He almost certainly gets more omega 3 than I do and I love fish.

So, the first thing to do is note down everything that you eat for a week or two and then analyze what is deficient in your diet. The analysis may be above you, although it probably is not, but you could take your diary or food to your GP or nutritionist. It might surprise you a great deal to find out precisely what you eat over a week.

As a point of interest, the majority of rural Thais do not eat beef or make cheese or drink milk, so over the centuries they have added small bones to their diet. In the West if we get a tiny bone in our mouth, we tend to remove it, but a Thai will crunch it to tiny pieces and swallow it – fish bones, small bird bones, frogs bones. Not only does it replace the missing calcium but it keeps their teeth strong in a country that is only just creating dentistry for the masses.

Posted by Martha Davis on March 27, 2012

Parents you must understand it’s not totally your fault that your child misbehaves.

As a child abuse investigator for nearly two decades; I’ve encountered just about everything, when it comes to children, families and parenting. My job was to investigate allegations of abuse, abandonment or child neglect. I have seen excellent parents of children that had defiant, disruptive behavior and good children with horrible parents.

Various circumstances warranted my visit to a home. Most times after a visit parents were referred to parenting classes and counseling. Sometimes these services worked for the parents and child but many times it did not.

Some adults tend to raise their children in the manner in which they were reared; following the same old methods knowing that these measures are clearly wrong and were not in their child’s best interest. I was always shocked by this.

The majority of them made poor decisions because they knew nothing else to do in stressful situations with their children other than what their parents did to them.

Frequently parents did nothing to their defiant, out of control children in fear that it might warrant a visit from Child Welfare or even more extreme that the children would be remove from their custody.

Sports Nutrition Information.

Posted by Owen Jones on March 26, 2012

Sports nutrition does not only apply to sports men and women. Sports nutrition information is applicable to everyone who wants to be fit and eat good quality food in order to give the body all the goodness it needs to get you through the day.

Nutrition is all encompassing: healthy nutrition means that your body gets energy from good food; that your brain and your nerves have the right nutrients to be able to perform properly and that you eat the correct sort of foods in order to help your blood and internal organs carry out their jobs.

This knowledge is invaluable to sports people because they want to perform to their utmost capability and frequently there is a lot of money at stake, but it is still relevant to all of us who have more modest physical aims.

Running a marathon or lifting heavy weights requires a great deal of energy and it takes a great deal out of a body. Once the action has been carried out, the body needs to recuperate its strength. On a lesser scale we all have to do this at the end of each day, having carried out our daily tasks.

Nutritionists have found that some foodstuffs and certain food combinations aid the delivery of energy and the recovery afterwards. Therefore, if you eat the correct foodstuffs, you ought to feel more alert and more energetic and not become so tired at the end of the day.

It seems that calcium is a major nutrient for general levels good health. Acquiring your ‘Recommended Daily Amount’ (RDA) of calcium will give you ’staying power’. Furthermore, it will assist you to not feel hungry, so it should also help in any diet meant to make you lose weight.

Another nutrient with a likewise beneficial function is the Omega essential fatty acids group. However, there seems to be a great deal of confusion about the Omegas. There are quite a few of them, but the two main ones that we need are Omega 3 and Omega 6.

Most people get too much Omega 6 and not enough Omega 3, which many individuals blame for the rise in the incidence of heart disease, atherosclerosis, arthritis, obesity and lots more ‘contemporary’ diseases. Then there are two kinds of Omega 3.

Omega 3 short chain molecule fatty acids, which can be obtained from lots of land-based foodstuffs and the Omega 3 long chain molecule fatty acids which are only available from aquatic sources. These are the ones most people are lacking and lacking in serious amounts.

So, ensuring a regular supply of just these two nutrients could go a long way to helping you feel more vibrant, less tired and more likely to bounce back after a difficult day.

The first thing to do is check the RDA of calcium and Omega 3 (DHA AND EPA) from fish oil and / or kelp or seaweed and be sure that you are getting that in your diet.

This is not all the sports nutrition information you ought to know, but perhaps it will inspire you to carry out further study.

Weekly Pregnancy Guide

Posted by Brandy Jacoby on March 25, 2012

Build up a bedtime routine to help improve your sleep while pregnant. Having a consistent routine in the evenings will help your body know when it is time to sleep and make it easier to fall asleep. Try soothing rituals such as a warm shower, reading a short story, or having a shoulder massage.

Try taking your prenatal vitamins at night. These pills, while essential for the proper growth and development of your baby, can make some mothers feel nauseous. Taking them before you lay down or with food can help your body adjust to their effects. If you need to take them during the day, try chewing gum afterwards.

Your pregnancy means the decisions are yours. Just because someone in your office or a distant relative doesn’t believe that you should drink coffee or lift something heavier than 20 pounds doesn’t mean they control your pregnancy decisions. Talk to your doctor and make your decisions with them. Ignore unsolicited comments from others.

Being sleepy in the first trimester is very normal. Your energy level will probably plummet as that baby is growing in leaps and bounds. Make sure that you get lots of extra rest. Go to bed early and if you can change your schedule, wake up later. Don’t be afraid to take a nap in the middle of the day either if you need it.

Don’t be afraid to contact your doctor if you suffer any unusual symptoms during your pregnancy. These symptoms include stomach pain, cramping, vaginal bleeding, and especially a decreased level of fetal activity. It’s difficult to tell if everything is okay from the outside, and you’re better off asking your physician to check if something seems strange.

Don’t start worrying if you aren’t “showing” your pregnancy for a while. Most new moms don’t start showing visible signs of pregnancy until they are in their 6th month. Subsequent pregnancies usually show earlier in the course of the pregnancy as the body has already been there and done that.

If you are having a hard time getting pregnant, make sure you visit your doctor and have him or her run tests. There are many reasons that you may not being pregnant, some of which can be treated. Also, make sure your partner is tested, as the problem could be with him or his sperm.

If you are seeing a doctor for anything, you need to tell them that you are pregnant. Some of the tests that they perform at the doctors office can be harmful to a pregnant women, and they will skip these for you. Even if there is only a small chance you could be pregnant, you need to speak up.

If you are suffering from severe insomnia, consider asking your doctor about it. Your doctor will be able to offer you great advice that could help you rest more soundly. During your pregnancy, it is extremely important to be able to get a full night of sleep and your doctor may be able to recommend some helpful things to make it easier.

Vitamin And Nutrient Supplements

Posted by Owen Jones on March 24, 2012

We all understand that we need to get all the vitamins that our body has to have in order to function correctly, although most of us do not know exactly what they are. We also know that it is better to get these vitamins and nutrients from our food rather than from tablets or supplements. Regrettably, this is not always possible, so occasionally we have to resort to supplements.

Some individuals resort to supplements because the food that contains the vitamins that they are lacking is difficult to come by, a problem to cook or is very costly. This is why the provision of vitamins, nutrients and supplements is such big business, being worth billions of dollars every year.

Supplements come in three different kinds: liquid, tablets and capsules containing liquid or solids. Naturally, it is best to make sure that the supplement dissolves in your system before it passes through you, which is why the liquid form is thought to be the best sort.

However, some people do not like the taste of the liquid, which is where capsules containing liquid come in. They also happen to be the most expensive sort.

Some people have difficulty swallowing tablets and tablets are the form that sometimes do not entirely dissolve. Before you purchase your supplements there are a few items to check.

The first is to find out what the ‘recommended daily amount’ (RDA) of each vitamin and mineral is in your country. I say ‘in your country’ because not each country recommends the same quantities.

Then check the country of origin of the supplements. There are some countries I would not have confidence in, but that is your choice. It is worth being aware of though. It is pointless taking a higher dose than the RDA unless your doctor tells you to.

It is also not really worth taking a great deal less unless you are truly just supplementing the vitamins in your regular food intake.

While you have worked out your needs you could go down to your local health food store to find the names and prices of manufacturers that can fulfill your requirements.

Then go back home and check Amazon and eBay for prices of the same items. Shopping for supplements in this way can save you more than 50% on High Street shop prices.

If you are having difficulty working out which vitamins you ought to be taking enquire of your medical doctor as your age, sex, degree of fitness and health can all have an effect on your needs. One thing you must never do though is attempt to replace food with supplements.

You require both or rather you ought to take your vitamins in your food if at all you can. Vitamin supplements are only that – supplements to food, not replacements for it. Some minerals such as essential fatty acids like Omega 3 do not have an RDA in every country, so you ought to take private advice on these essential fatty acids especially DHA and EPA long chain essential fatty acids from fish oil.
